Sunway Group has committed Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as the first private large-scale vaccination centre for the Petaling district, as the country ramps up the National COVID-19 Immunisation programme (NCIP).
The 80,000 sq ft convention centre opened its doors on March 10 and will be carrying out vaccinations for at least 1.8 million people, starting with frontline workers followed by residents in the Petaling district over the next 11 months until February 2022.
Following the National Immunisation Plan, the Centre will carry out vaccinations for healthcare workers in the government and private facilities as well as essential services from February to April 2021, remaining healthcare workers, essential workers and enforcers as well as senior citizens and high-risk groups from April to August 2021, with vaccinations for the community at large from August 2021 to February 2022.
As of March 12, some 1,400 frontline workers have been vaccinated. The vaccination is carried out by Petaling Health District Office with strict adherence to the SOPs, in small groups, with adequate social distancing. Free parking is provided for those coming to get vaccinated over the next 11 months.
Petaling District Disaster Management Committee said that Sunway Group’s commitment to nation building by offering the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as a vaccination centre is instrumental to helping our nation achieve the goal of 80% herd immunity in Malaysia.
“Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre has the ideal size, strategic location, and infrastructure support we need to ensure the smooth roll-out of the vaccinations. We are thankful to the Sunway Group for its prompt response in offering the convention centre as a vaccination hub and supporting the national immunisation programme,” said the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee.
Sunway Group deputy executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim said, “Sunway is committed to nation building by offering our convention centre in support of the 80% herd immunity in Malaysia, which will save lives and livelihoods and put us as back as a nation on the road to building back economic sustainability.”
Since the start of the pandemic last year, Sunway Group has committed more than RM50 million that includes more than RM12 million to support Government healthcare institutions and professionals and RM20 million to provide retailers rent-free days during the MCO 1.0 period, and support for the current national immunisation programme. Sunway Group is committed to helping Malaysia combat COVID-19 and alleviating the hardships of those who are most impacted by the pandemic such as frontline workers, small businesses, as well as families and individuals within the B40 communities.
Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah had also been appointed by the Prime Minister to serve on the Economic Action Council (EAC) which is a special task force to that takes additional necessary actions for the delivery of the nation’s Economic Stimulus Package in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
