Sunway College A-Level Students Reach the Top of the World

 


A total of 11 A-Level students from Sunway College have received a total of 15 prestigious awards from Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), acknowledging their outstanding performance in the June 2021 Cambridge examination series.

With the recent awards, Sunway College continues to stand as the recipient of the highest number of Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in Malaysia, underscoring the institution’s dedication to the highest quality of education. Sunway College A-Level is also named as the number one provider in the country by the Cambridge Assessment International Education office of Malaysia as a testament to the institution’s consistent quality and result.

From the total of 11, a total of eight students were awarded the highest distinction which is ‘Top in the World.’ The ‘Top in the World’ awards are which recognises students who achieved the highest standard mark in the world for a single subject.

Two of the students were awarded first place and was given the ‘Best Across’ title by CAIE for their exceptional performance. The ‘Best Across’ awards are issued to learners who have achieved an A grade and have attained the first highest cumulative total standard marks over a set number of subjects. Lucius Khor Zhe Yi was awarded ‘Best Across Four’ while achieving ‘Top in the World’ for Mathematics and ‘Top in Malaysia’ for Chemistry. Chai Zi Yang was awarded ‘Best Across Three’ while achieving ‘Top in the World’ for Mathematics and ‘Top in Malaysia’ for Physics. This will be Zi Yang’s second consecutive ‘Best Across’ award after his ‘Best Across Four’ award early this year.

The other six ‘Top in the World’ award recipients are Devaassenan Mahenthiran, Foo Zi Yee, Lee Zhi Ying, Michelle Teo Zhi Yee, Tan Jing Er and Tan Ping. They have scored excellent marks in Mathematics and earned the prestigious spot in the world.

Two students – Brenda Yeoh Wai Jeng (Accounting) and Tan Hong Jun (Further Mathematics) received ‘Top in Malaysia’ Award for the respective subjects, while Lim Yee Cheng Jonathan received the ‘High Achievement’ Award for Thinking Skills.

“It brings me such great joy to witness the world class success of our Sunway A-Level students who have emerged as top in the nation once again despite the trying learning circumstances in this pandemic time they had to go through. The dedicated and committed lecturers with many years of experience form a major part of the equation for the success attained”, said Sunway College Director of the A-Level programme, Ruth Cheah.

The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world. Cambridge places learners at the centre of their international education programmes and qualifications which are inspired by the best in educational thinking.
