Taobao App to Launch Bahasa Malaysia Interface Amid Surge in Global Popularity

 – As global online demand for quality products continues to rise, Taobao Malaysia today announces plans to further enhance the local shopping experience by launching a Malay-language interface tentatively in June. This upgrade is designed to better reflect local language preferences and meet the growing cross-border shopping needs of Malaysian users.

The announcement takes place amid a surge in global popularity of the Taobao app, which has recently become the second-most downloaded app in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, while claiming the top spot in France. In Malaysia, Taobao has also recently become the second-most downloaded app on the iOS shopping app chart—demonstrating strong local interest and trust in the platform.

“Our planned introduction of a Malay-language interface will mark another significant milestone in Taobao’s localisation journey and reinforce our platform’s commitment to providing every Malaysian user with a more accessible, seamless and worry-free shopping experience,” said Jess Lew, Country Head of Taobao Malaysia.

Taobao, as the cornerstone of China’s e-commerce landscape, not only offers a wide variety of products but also transforms the way hundreds of millions of individuals shop through its immersive and personalised shopping experience. Today, Taobao is more than just a place to shop—it’s where users discover trends, find inspiration, and ignite new ideas in their daily lives.

In September last year, Taobao launched its English interface in Malaysia, powered by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology that automatically translates platform content. The app currently provides bilingual customer service in English and Chinese, helping users overcome language barriers and explore a wide selection of high-quality products with ease.

With English product descriptions, prices displayed in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and a simplified interface, Malaysian users can now browse and shop more easily than ever. Supported by Antom and Cainiao, Taobao also offers a robust payment and logistics infrastructure to ensure seamless and reliable transactions and deliveries.

Malaysian users can choose from various payment options, including debit cards, credit cards, online banking, e-wallets and instalment plans. Order tracking is available directly within the app to ensure transparency.

The Taobao app can be downloaded for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. To learn more about Taobao Malaysia, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X—or log in to the Taobao app today.
