Rakuten Kobo Announces Plans for Instapaper Integration, Continuing Commitment to Seamless "Read It Later" Experience
Rakuten Kobo, a global leader in eReading, today announced that it is developing a new integration with Instapaper, the popular "read it later" service. The integration will provide Kobo readers with a seamless way to save and enjoy web articles directly on their Kobo eReaders, ensuring a continued distraction-free reading experience for long-form content, essays, recipes and more.
In partnership with Instapaper, Kobo is working diligently to bring this integration to its eReaders, with the aim of launching by the end of summer 2025. The new Kobo and Instapaper integration will take the place of Kobo’s previous integration with Pocket after that service is sunset in June 2025.
"Kobo loves long-form reading, no matter what you want to read or where it comes from," said Michael Tamblyn, CEO, Rakuten Kobo. “We are excited to be working with Instapaper, who shares a lot of our values around great reading experiences and is a clear leader in the “read it later” space. We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible, ensuring readers can enjoy all their favourite material on Kobo eReaders."
Tamblyn continues: "The Pocket sunset was a surprise to many, including us, so we are looking forward to having this great new solution in place as quickly as possible.”
Many former Pocket customers have already successfully made the change to Instapaper. Thanks to its clean interface and robust organizational tools, Instapaper has been praised by users as an essential reading companion.
“Both Instapaper and Kobo are powerful tools for readers,” said Brian Donohue, CEO, Instapaper. “Our number one priority since the Pocket shutdown has been helping people make the transition to Instapaper, so that they can continue to enjoy the ‘read-it-later' experience that they love. We look forward to working closely with Kobo to make this experience easier than ever on their eReaders.”
Further details regarding the specific features and launch date of the Kobo and Instapaper integration will be shared in the coming weeks.
