Alliance Bank Plants Seeds for Financially Savvy, Eco-Conscious Youth

Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad (“Alliance Bank” or “the Bank”) today launched AEIOU Seeds for Life – Season 8, themed “Responsible Living: Smart Money Choices, Greener Planet”, ushering in a new chapter for one of Malaysia’s longest-running student financial literacy programmes. The programme name, Seeds for Life, reflects Alliance Bank’s purpose of being The Bank for Life, supporting individuals and communities at every stage of life through meaningful, future-focused initiatives.

First introduced 11 years ago, the national-level programme has gone beyond teaching financial concepts by encouraging students to apply their knowledge in real-world situations. It emphasises how everyday financial decisions, such as saving, spending and planning, are closely connected to environmental responsibility and sustainable living. This year marks a significant milestone, as the programme for the first time will extend beyond primary schools to secondary schools, and reach into the East Coast, alongside selected international and private schools, broadening its impact across more student communities nationwide.

Supported by the Ministry of Education, the programme reflects a shared commitment between the public and private sectors to equip the next generation with the knowledge, values and practical skills needed for the future.

Deputy Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Tuan Wong Kah Woh, expressed his optimism about the programme, said, “The introduction of the biodiversity module to this programme is both timely and necessary, as we are already experiencing the accelerating effects of climate change. This initiative is also aligned with the Ministry of Education’s introduction of a new subject, Alam dan Manusia.”

Meanwhile, Alliance Bank’s Group Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Dr Aaron Sum, highlighted this year’s programme, saying, “Through the Biodiversity module, students learn how everyday actions, such as saving water, using energy responsibly and choosing eco-friendly products, can help protect the environment while also leading to long-term cost savings. This highlights how sound financial management and environmental sustainability are closely linked.”

To further strengthen the programme’s environmental dimension, Alliance Bank is partnering with the environmental non-governmental organisation (NGO) Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Malaysia as the subject-matter expert for biodiversity-related curriculum content and workshops, adding depth and credibility to the learning experience.

The AEIOU Seeds for Life Season 8 workshop series commenced on 11 June across selected schools nationwide as part of efforts to expand the programme’s reach. Beyond classroom learning, students gain practical and interactive learning experience through a specially designed board game, ‘Eco-Heroes’, introduced for the first time as an innovative learning approach within the programme. Through this, they navigate real-life scenarios and develop an understanding of how financial literacy and environmental responsibility are closely interconnected in shaping responsible everyday decision-making.

At the heart of the programme is a dual-track national competition comprising the AEIOU Eco-Comic Challenge for primary school students and the AEIOU Eco-Pitching Challenge for secondary school students. With a total prize pool of RM35,000, the competition invites students to apply what they learn in practical and creative ways — from storytelling through comics to presenting real-world ideas that promote responsible money management, environmental awareness and responsible living.

Schools, teachers, parents and students are encouraged to visit the AEIOU landing page to access full details, submission guidelines and updates, and to take part in the AEIOU Eco-Comic Challenge and AEIOU Eco-Pitching Challenge. Submissions close on 15 September 2026, with the finale award ceremony scheduled for November 2026.

The programme is further supported by the AEIOU Seeds for Life – RM1 Alliance Buddy® Account Opening initiative, which enables students to open a savings account with a minimum deposit of only RM1. This initiative aims to instil the habit of saving early and foster financial discipline among students from a young age.

Adding further momentum to the initiative, Alliance Bank has brought on board OiYO by Montigo as the Impact Sponsor of the AEIOU programme, contributing attractive prizes and digital promotional support.

Beyond student participation, the programme also includes a Train-the-Trainer (TTT) component that equips teachers with financial literacy knowledge and practical resources they can apply in the classroom and share with students, extending the programme’s impact beyond the competition itself.

Since its inception in 2015, the AEIOU programme has benefited more than 148,000 students nationwide through roadshows and learning engagements. It has also empowered 2,900 teachers and benefited more than 3,510 schools across Malaysia, reinforcing the important role of educators in guiding students towards sound financial habits and responsible living.
