MR D.I.Y. brings aid to Kota Marudu and Baling

MR D.I.Y., Malaysia’s favourite home improvement retailer, has once again come to the aid of communities in need.  This time, the retailer’s corporate social responsibility team, MR.DIY Cares, went all the way to Kampung Gana in Kota Marudu, Sabah, to distribute everyday essentials to 40 families in the village.

The MR.DIY Cares team partnered women & children empowerment non-government organisation Soroptimist International Club of Damansara (SID) to travel to Sabah by air and then a further 2.5 hours by road, to deliver washing powder, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bodyink soap and sanitary pads to the community.  MR D.I.Y. also contributed gardening tools such as pail, gardening hose, shovel and garden gloves for the village organic farming project, which helps the community generate a sustainable income.

In a separate programme, MR.DIY Cares volunteers reached out to flood victims in Baling, Kedah, who were recently hit by some of the worst floods in the history of southeast Kedah. To help ease their burden, the retailer teamed up with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia to distribute dry food and ready-to-cook canned food to support 109 families who were displaced by the floods.

Commenting on the two initiatives, MR D.I.Y. Group Chairman, Dato’ Azlam Shah Alias said, “MR D.I.Y. is committed to helping communities in need at all corners of the country.  Collaborations such as these two with Soroptimist International Damansara and Yayasan Food Bank allow us to get everyday essentials to more people more effectively, and we thank them for working with us.   In the case of Kampung Gana, the contribution also helps ensure their income-generating activities can continue, thereby ensuring their continued sustainability. In these challenging times, we believe it is even more important for companies and organisations to work together to help the rakyat, and we look forward to more partnerships like this in the future.”

MR D.I.Y. previously collaborated with SID in December, 2021, to distribute 200 banana plants and personal care products to 45 families at Orang Asli Kampung Sungai Kepong, as well as personal protective equipment, headcovers and shoe covers sewn by the refugees and single parents to Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan. The two organisation also joined forces to provide everyday essentials to 10 childrens’ homes and education centre around the country.
