NCT Smart Management Seals MOUs with KDEBWM and MAEKO

In a significant move to shore up sustainable waste management and environmental conservation in its developments, NCT Smart Management Sdn. Bhd. (NCT Smart Management) has inked memorandums of understanding (MOU) with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) and Mentari Alam EKO (M) Sdn Bhd (MAEKO).

Leveraging smart solutions, the two MOUs are pivotal to advancing the offerings and capabilities of the NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP), the country’s first managed industrial park located in Selangor’s Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (IDRISS).

NCT Smart Management’s collaboration with KDEBWM will explore comprehensive solutions that bolster waste collection, public cleansing services, and recycling at NSIP as a whole, and specifically for the Industrial, Commercial, and Institution (ICI) sector within the park. The MOU with MAEKO on the other hand will focus on implementing wide-ranging food and organic waste management, given MAEKO’s expertise in wastewater treatment and microbial research on waste treatment.

Dato' Sri Yap Ngan Choy, Founder and Group Managing Director of NCT Group, expressed his enthusiasm for these partnerships, stating, “The strategic MOUs aptly address the massive challenges of waste management at industrial parks, with the intention to effectively mitigate environmental impact. By integrating KDEBWM’s advanced waste management services and MAEKO’s innovative composting technology, we expect to achieve a significant reduction in waste generation at NSIP.”

He added, “The partnerships will allow us to elevate our smart park and set a new benchmark for the industry. Through these efforts and more to come, NSIP can lead the charge to fostering a strong culture of sustainability and innovation that will ultimately benefit stakeholders, communities and the environment.”

The award-winning developer’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its ongoing efforts to consistently meet and exceed global environmental standards with the goal of NSIP achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. By collaborating with like-minded industry leaders like KDEBWM and MAEKO, NCT Smart Management is also furthering its broader aim to contribute to a greener future for Malaysia.

Dato’ Haji Ramli bin Mohd Tahir, Managing Director of KDEBWM, commented: “Our collaboration with NCT Smart Management reflects our shared commitment to advancing sustainable waste management in Selangor. Through our experience and track record in waste collection and public cleansing services, we can contribute to raising the sustainability profile of NSIP and its goal of becoming a definitive model for smart waste management in industrial parks.”

KDEBWM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI), is Selangor's leading waste management organisation. Set up to manage domestic waste collection and public cleansing services across 12 municipalities, KDEBWM handles over 10,000 tons of waste daily, serving a population of 6.7 million residents.

Chelsea Chee, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MAEKO, shared her views: “We are excited to partner with NCT Smart Management in this innovative venture. Our advanced composting technology along with MAEKO's embedded IoT system with real-time carbon tracking which can assist in ESG reporting, can play a crucial role in managing organic waste at NSIP.  This reflects our proven methods to achieve zero food waste though sustainable practices. We look forward to diving into this collaboration to further strengthen NSIP as an environmentally friendly industrial park.”

MAEKO, known for its cutting-edge composting technology, is dedicated to solving the critical issue of food waste. With nearly a decade of research and development in its background, MAEKO has developed advanced composting solutions applicable across various industries, including hotels, supermarkets, and hospitals.

NCT Smart Management’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in multifaceted efforts to tackle emissions and adhere to global environmental standards through the development of an AI-Low Carbon Industrial Park like NSIP. NSIP is also supported by Invest Selangor, MIDA and MITI, establishing it as the country’s first investment solution centre.
